Welcome Our AmeriCorps VISTA Members – Diane and Alex!

November 18, 2016   |   No Comments

This month we welcome new members to the Northeast and Southeast Kansas affiliate teams. These aren’t just any staff member, they aren’t even employees! Alex McNay and Diane Jarvi will be serving as AmeriCorps VISTA members in Southeast and Northeast, Kansas, respectively. These members serve CIS of Mid-America and support their community in efforts to help eliminate poverty. AmeriCorps VISTA members will serve with us for a year, full time, to build capacity in local affiliates around resource development, community awareness and engagement and programming development. In the coming weeks, they’ll be touring around their affiliates and learning all they can so that they can build up community partnerships and build out resources so that we can deepen our impact with the students that we serve.

Diane Jarvi will serve as the Northeast Kansas Operations Coordinator and will be serving from the main office in Lawrence. Diane is coming back to the NEKS region after time away serving in AmeriCorps in Michigan. She has extensive experience working with youth, school-based programming and serving as an AmeriCorps  member.

Alex McNay will serve as the Southeast Kansas Operations Coordinator and will be housed in Pittsburg, KS. Hailing from SEKS, Alex is very invested in giving back to his community as a strategy to lift others up. He has a solid foundation in communications and writing, team work and teaching.

Both members will be focused on supporting the Affiliate Director through community awareness activities (building strong connections, keeping stakeholders informed) and resource development. They will also have the opportunity to connect with the entire affiliate as they work with Site Coordinators to evaluate current delivery of tiered programming as well as the development of best practices for emerging needs and issues.
