Volunteer and Training VISTA

VISTA members have the unique opportunity to learn the inner-workings of a national, non-profit organization. Members get real-world experience, gaining skills involved with non-profit management.

The Volunteer and Training VISTA member would be responsible for developing systems for volunteer management, Alumni Allies Program development, and training development in order to expand quality services to students within the CIS of Mid-America network. The goals of the position are to support in the management of volunteer programming network-wide, lead the development of the alumni program to ensure that students receive the supports they need after graduating from high school, and provide network-wide research and support in ongoing efforts to keep staff up-to-date on best practices and professional development opportunities. Activities would include: assessing current volunteer engagement efforts and identifying new ways to utilize and recognize volunteers, cultivating community and university partnerships, expand and develop alumni engagement strategies, develop marketing materials for programming, research distance-training best practices. The member would serve from the main office in Lawrence, KS and would work with the entire CIS of Mid-America network.

Overview of VISTA role with CIS of Mid-America:

The AmeriCorps VISTA members at CIS of Mid-America will have many opportunities to gain skills involved with non-profit management and the needs of at-risk youth. Members will support program research and development that will directly benefit the students that the organization serves. Members will help tell the organization’s story through data evaluation and community engagement, make programs thrive through research and volunteer recruitment and management, and find ways to make the organization fiscally sound through grant research and supporting donor relations. Members look to gain valuable knowledge and experience in non-profit management.
