LAWRENCE, KS – The opportunity to raise funds to support at-risk students and families has come together in the Golf-Where-You-Are and Putt-Where-You-Are events hosted by Communities In Schools (CIS) of Mid-America. This unique, virtual golf event enables CIS of Mid-America to encourage families to follow safe social distancing guidelines and golf in their home community, while participating with others near and far.
“Just like students are anxious for the last day of school each year, we always look forward to our summer golf tournament,” said Lashawn Taylor, CIS of Mid-America Director of Community Engagement. “We think we’ve come up with a fun way to encourage people to get outside and be active, yet in a safe manner that also supports our organization.”
The fundraising golf event will still offer the traditional four-person team format; however, all team members do not have to play on the same day or even the same course – just within the event’s June 13-27 timeframe. For example, a team may consist of players from Pittsburg and Salina, KS, along with someone from Phoenix, AZ, and Waterloo, IA. Golfers will submit their scorecards after play. Once all team members’ scorecards have been received, team scores will be adjusted to an over-par total using the top three out of four players’ rounds. Team registration is $100. If you are interested in being placed on a team, individuals may register for $25. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams in three flights.
“We have also added a family-friendly golf format this year,” said Jessica Peña, CIS of Mid-America Development & Events Manager. “Participants can play a round of miniature golf in our Putt-Where-You-Are event. We think this connects with our family engagement efforts while, again, encouraging people to be active outside and stay safe, too!”
Putters can round up friends and family to join in the fun with a $10 registration fee and play a miniature golf course nearby. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 putters.
Participants in the Golf-Where-You-Are or Putt-Where-You-Are events are also eligible for additional prizes if they tag @cismidamerica on Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter when they are playing. To learn more information about these events or register, go to cismidamerica.org.
