Lawrence, KS – Communities In Schools (CIS) of Mid-America is celebrating its 25th Anniversary throughout this year by engaging with communities in its network to spread awareness for its work helping underserved students. As part of its fundraising goals, this non-profit organization seeks participants to take on Challenge 25.
Challenge 25 tasks participants with finding 25 people to donate at least $25 to CIS of Mid-America. The organization is hoping to secure 25 people to take on the challenge.
“This has been such a difficult year for so many,” said Cindy S. Wilson, CIS of Mid-America’s Board Treasurer and Challenge 25 participant. “I have been inspired by those in CIS of Mid-America who have stepped up to help kids and families that are struggling. Kids deserve a chance, regardless of their situation, to succeed in school and in life.”
Ron & Marianne Peña took on the challenge because “there are many schools that lack resources. We hope that by taking this challenge, we are helping bring some of those resources to schools. We decided to take the challenge with Communities In Schools because they have the knowledge and awareness to know what students need and how to help them.”
Neta Jeffus, CIS of Mid-America’s Board Chair, likes that the challenge offers a new way to talk about Communities In Schools with people. “I want more people to be aware of CIS and the work we are doing,” said Jeffus. “At times, I feel we are the best-kept secret when I hear people despair no one is helping children.”
Kelly Stanford, CIS of Mid-America Chief Program Officer, encourages support for the organization because “CIS is one of the most practical and meaningful ways people can support real efforts to help students overcome barriers so they can work toward a fulfilling future. It is the right thing to do for the students we serve AND the right thing to do to build the strong, stable society that benefits all of us.”
