CIS OF MID-AMERICA - Lawrence, KS

Communities In Schools of Mid-America participated in the 26th Annual Sertoma Great Topeka Duck Race. At least 10,000 “adopted” rubber ducks were dropped into Lake Shawnee in the cove South of the swim beach and raced to the finish line. Lucky winners received great prizes and all participating organizations received 50% of fees received from ducks who were adopted from their team.

PITTSBURG HIGH SCHOOL - Pittsburg, KS

The new Student Support Coordinator at Pittsburg High School has hit the ground running! LC Davis hosted a "Meet Your Student Support Coordinator" event this week, setting up a table during lunches so that students could meet him, introduce themselves, and spin the prize wheel for a small prize. As you can see, the students were really into it!

EMPORIA HIGH SCHOOL - Emporia, KS

As schools head back into session, our Student Support Coordinators are excited to meet new students and visit with those who are returning. Lindsay Metcalf, the new Student Support Coordinator at Emporia High School, handed out CIS of Mid-America drawstring bags full of goodies during her school's "Back to School Night" in August.

NEODESHA PUBLIC SCHOOLS - Neodesha, KS

An elementary school that we work with in Neodesha, KS had this Sensory Pathway installed over the summer, thanks to Miranda Carpenter, Student Support Coordinator. The pathway offers a variety of routes students can take for "brain breaks" throughout the day.

OTTAWA MIDDLE SCHOOL - Ottawa, KS

Valerie Shaw, Student Support Coordinator at Ottawa Middle School was in need of water bottles for students. She put out the call, and within 24 hours, she had received nearly 200 bottles!

PARSONS PUBLIC SCHOOLS - Parsons, KS

GUADALUPE CENTERS HIGH SCHOOL - Kansas City, MO

One of our students was absent from class all week. Student Support Coordinator, Katie McClave, discovered that the student had broken her foot and lost her phone. The student had no way to get to school or let the school know. We got the student a replacement phone and covered the costs for public transportation to get the student to school each day.
